Reading the ocean in a pond

Röstånga Konsthall, 2022

As water flows through the land, the marks it leaves bear witness to its force and direction. Ripples rolling across the ocean’s surface allude to the proximity of land. The sculptures in the series Reading the ocean in a pond consists of cast glass filled with sand from the land’s outermost edges, beaches where the sea appears to extend without end. Like the waters, humans have always drawn lines and pictures in these sands, fleeting acts of storytelling, rituals or just aimless accidents. Torgersen’s sculptures examine the encounters between sands and lines, between natural influences and human intentions.
